Located in Northeast Georgia, just an hour north of Atlanta, Vickery is dedicated to preserving the versatility and working ability of the German Shorthaired Pointer. Since 2011, we have pursued the ideal Shorthair—driven, confident, and resilient, with the structure and stamina to work tirelessly in the field. Today, our focus extends beyond hunting and performance to producing dogs capable of excelling in modern detection work. In these roles, trainability, environmental stability, and resilience are essential. These same qualities also make our dogs reliable, loyal companions for active families who value their intelligence and energy.
We believe that a healthy dog is the foundation for everything that follows. All of our breeding dogs meet or exceed the health testing requirements recommended by the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America (GSPCA). We conduct OFA or PennHIP evaluations, screen for cardiac, thyroid, and eye health, and use available databases to track genetic and hereditary concerns. Our goal is to produce long-lived, sound dogs who can remain active, capable partners throughout their lives while maintaining excellent quality of life well into their senior years.
Vickery’s mission is simple: to produce German Shorthaired Pointers with the structure, temperament, and working ability to excel in specialized roles, perform reliably in the field, and thrive as loyal companions to dedicated, active homes. Every dog we place is supported for life, and we are proud to stand behind the dogs we produce and the people who love them.
Who We Are
Hi! I’m Meghan Bodie, the human face behind Vickery Shorthairs. My journey with German Shorthaired Pointers began in 2011 when I rescued my first GSP and discovered a lifelong passion for the breed. Since then, I have devoted myself to training, evaluating, and competing with Shorthairs in NAVHDA testing, AKC Hunt Tests, and the conformation ring, as well as across a wide variety of dog sports. In recent years, my focus has expanded into the world of detection, where I prepare dogs for both sport and professional roles.
My greatest passion lies in developing dogs and their handlers into confident, capable teams. I’ve had the privilege of working with dogs in hunting and field work, performance sports, advanced AKC CGC certifications, service work, and sport and professional detection roles. My approach is rooted in lifelong learning: I actively pursue continuing education, have studied under a diverse range of accomplished trainers, and am a soon-to-be graduate of the K9 Sensus Foundation’s Detection Dog Trainer program—an intensive mentorship that blends science-based training with practical field applications.
I believe strongly in collaboration and transparency within the dog community. As a member of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America’s Health and Welfare Committee, I contribute to efforts that protect and preserve the breed’s future. I am equally committed to rescue work, volunteering with Southeast German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue to give back to Shorthairs in need.
When I’m not actively training or handling, I enjoy capturing the spirit of these incredible dogs through photography. Above all, I am passionate about helping others prepare for success—whether in the field, the ring, or in specialized working roles.
